English TOLC-I, TOLC-E and TOLC-F: Replaced by the CEnT-S
In short. The English TOLC-I, TOLC-E and TOLC-F were replaced in November 2025. The CEnT-S replaced all three.[1]
Only the English versions are gone. The Italian TOLC-I, TOLC-E and TOLC-F still run. If you planned for an English TOLC, most of your work still helps. Some of it no longer matches the new test, for example the English section and the section sizes.
Four changes that matter, and one that may come
- One test for everyone. Engineering, economics and pharmacy now share one test. Each used to have its own TOLC.
- No English section, but a new Reading section. The old tests ended with 30 English questions that cost nothing when wrong. For 2027/28 entry, the CEnT-S starts with 10 Reading questions instead. Here a wrong answer costs 0.25.
- Sciences are in the test. The CEnT-S includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The TOLC-E had no science at all. Your university may not count them, so check which sections count.
- Logic and data in one section. Reasoning on texts and data covers logic and data. Reading now has its own section. Reasoning has 15 questions in 30 minutes.
- Maybe a minimum time per section. On the TOLC you could close a section early. In 2026 you had to stay a minimum time in each CEnT-S section. CISIA has not confirmed this rule for 2027/28 entry. Our advice: plan as if it still applies.[2]
The old tests and the new one

The old structures come from CISIA's pages for the TOLC-I,[3] the TOLC-E[4] and the TOLC-F.[5] The scoring did not change: +1 right, −0.25 wrong, 0 blank.
Using an old TOLC book
Most prep books were written for a TOLC. In September 2026, the big Italian publishers had not updated these TOLC books for the CEnT-S:
- A TOLC-E book has no Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
- A TOLC-I book has lots of maths, but only ten mixed science questions.
- A TOLC-F book has the sciences, but very little logic.
- TOLC-I and TOLC-E books have short reading or verbal comprehension sections. None matches the CEnT-S Reading section: 10 questions in 30 minutes, on B2 texts.
- None uses the CEnT-S clocks.
The content is still useful: a chemistry chapter is a chemistry chapter. Just do not use an old book as a mock test. And do not let its section sizes set your study plan. See how to prepare for the CEnT-S.
The fee
The Italian TOLC cost €35 in 2026.[6] The CEnT-S cost €55 per sitting in 2026.[7] Some websites still show a TOLC fee for the CEnT-S.
